A
Thought to Remember
Biblical wisdom does
not simply ask, “What is best for me?” It also asks, “What is right
before God, and how can my actions benefit others?”
Scripture repeatedly
places wisdom alongside humility, teachability, service, self-control, love,
and concern for others. True wisdom therefore affects not only what a person
knows, but also how he lives and how he treats the people around him.

Wisdom
That Looks Beyond Self
The desire to care
for ourselves is not automatically wrong. Scripture recognizes responsibility,
diligence, planning, provision for one's household, and faithful use of one's
abilities. The deeper danger begins when self-interest becomes the center of
life.
Jesus asks a
searching question:
What does it profit
a person to gain the whole world and lose his soul?
Reference: Mark 8:36
That question
changes the way we understand wisdom.
The wisest decision
is not necessarily the one that gives us the greatest immediate advantage.
Biblical wisdom asks us to consider God's will, our character, the effect of
our actions on others, and the eternal significance of our choices.
Philippians 2:3–4
gives us a powerful principle: believers are called to act with humility and to
look not only to their own interests but also to the interests of others.
This does not mean
neglecting ourselves or our responsibilities. It means refusing to make
ourselves the center of everything.
A life governed
entirely by self asks, “What will I gain?”
A life shaped by Christ asks, “What is right, and how can I serve?”
Personal
Reflection
Ask yourself today:
- Am I making decisions only
according to personal advantage?
- Am I willing to receive
correction and wise counsel?
- Do my ambitions leave room for
humility and service?
- Am I using what God has given me
for the benefit of others?
- In my daily choices, am I seeking
God's wisdom or merely my own understanding?
Prayerful thought:
Lord, give me wisdom that is greater than self-interest. Teach me to
recognize my own limitations, to receive correction with humility, to use my
gifts faithfully, and to consider the good of others. Help me seek Your wisdom
above my own understanding and live in a way that reflects Christ. Amen.
